Legislative Water Commission revived with a new name

Last month, we lamented one of the more unusual results of the 2019 Legislative session: the administrative purgatory of the Legislative Water Commission, a bipartisan group of legislators dedicated to collaboratively solving Minnesota's water issues.

This month, we’ve got some great news!

Thanks to the steady leadership of co-chairs Senator Bill Weber and Representative Peter Fischer, the now-expired Legislative Water Commission has been reestablished as the brand new "Subcommittee on Minnesota Water Policy."

For the next two years, the water commission will continue to review water policy reports and recommendations of state agencies and others, and to make bipartisan recommendations to the Minnesota Legislature.

The subcommittee now exists within the Legislative Coordinating Council. The Legislative Coordinating Commission serves as the umbrella organization for legislative commissions, joint agencies and other boards. The President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House alternate biennially as chair.
